The well thought of Lorne Willits, who had carried on Percy Hoadley’s vision of a musical congregation, was compelled by illness to end his 34 years of dedicated and inspiring service as Music Director.

Uniting two churches
These years saw the union of the United, and Evangelical United Brethren denominations, and since there were now two United Churches in town, the “Listowel United Church” became “Trinity United Church, Listowel”. The congregation, in 1970, sold its manse (on the corner of Barber and Elma) for the sum of $18,500.

Expanding and growing
The cornerstone was laid in July, and the “new and expanded” version of Listowel United Church was dedicated in April 1965, having cost $100,000. A carillon system was installed, adding to the church’s music program. Boys’ programs were revived with the introduction of Boy Scouts and Wolf Cubs.
